Shuttlecocks aren’t cheap, and replacing them constantly stings the wallet. With a little care, though, you can stretch their lifespan and keep your game flying high. Whether you’re using feather or nylon, here’s how to make them last—plus why Volant Badminton’s options are worth your shot.

Feather shuttlecocks can be delicate. Made from goose or duck feathers, they’re sensitive to humidity—too much moisture warps the feathers, killing their flight. Store them in a cool, dry place; a humidome (a tube with moisture control) is ideal if you’re serious. Avoid heat too—direct sunlight or a hot car can brittle them up. Test their speed—hit from the baseline; they should land in between the two marker lines that are often marked around the doubles service line near the back of the court. Frayed feathers or wobbly flight? Time to swap.

Nylon / plastic shuttlecocks are the tough cousins. Their synthetic skirts take a beating—think dozens of games, not just one. They’re less fussy but still degrade in extreme heat or rough storage. Keep them in their tube, away from sunlight or damp bags. Rotate them in practice—pounding the same shuttle wears it out fast.

Volant Badminton’s shuttlecocks are built for everyday players. Our feather options rival other brands in terms of quality x affordability, offering that smooth arc for enthusiasts ready to level up. Care tips: fluff feather skirts before play to loosen them, and don’t over-hit a damaged shuttle—it’s done when it’s done.

Save cash and play better with Volant’s durable models HERE. Badminton’s too fun to skimp on shuttles—stock up and keep the rallies alive. How do you store your shuttlecocks?
