How to improve your badminton performance with hydration

It is important for any sport that you stay hydrated and drink lots of water. This is especially true for badminton because the intensity and speed of the game make it difficult to catch your breath. As a result, you can lose electrolytes such as sodium and potassium if you don't take in enough fluids. It's also important to maintain body temperature so remember to take breaks from playing and drink plenty of water!

Badminton is a high-intensity and fast-paced game, but it's also important to remember to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water! Drinking enough fluids helps maintain body temperature and replenish electrolytes such as sodium and potassium that can be lost during play. It's also important to take breaks from playing to cool down.

Drinking lots of water will help you perform at your best for longer periods (and hopefully win more games!). Here are ten tips on how you can stay hydrated during badminton:

  1. Drink before, during, and after the match starts so you don't get thirsty or dehydrated too quickly
  2. Keep a bottle with you during the match so you have easy access when needed
  3. Get a big enough bottle to allow you to chug without having to stop and refill
  4. Don't wait until you feel thirsty before drinking
  5. Drink water that is at room temperature, not ice-cold (your body will need to work harder to raise its core temperature)
  6. Drink little sips throughout the game rather than too much at once
  7. If you don't like the taste of water, try adding some fresh fruit such as lemon or lime to give it a bit of flavour (or even chill it with ice cubes).
  8. Keep a bottle of sports drink (like Gatorade) at home, in your car to ensure you always have some when needed. Electrolyte drinks are also important ant to make sure you're retaining the water you're drinking and reduces risks of cramps!
  9. If you're exercising intensely for more than an hour, consider trying ice or cold therapy which involves applying ice to the body to help reduce pain and muscle damage. Although not hydrating in itself, cooling the body and reduce loss of fluid through profuse sweating
  10. Use this guide: you should drink one glass of water for every ten minutes of badminton
