Badminton is a great sport to get into, especially if you’ve done other sports. If you have then chances are most of what you need to wear already exists in your wardrobe. If not, don’t worry badminton is rapidly becoming self-contained like golf is currently with the equipment used.
So, what clothing should you wear to play badminton? Wear short or skirt with a light synthetic sports T-shirt for Badminton. Avoid tracksuit pants and long-sleeved T-shirts since you'll want to be able to move freely. Avoid 100% cotton materials for any of these. If you're going to play a lot, invest in a pair of Badminton shoes.
Badminton is a sport that anyone can join and play. If you're joining a club, competing, or getting coaching, you'll need to be aware of additional information. On to learn what the dress code is for competitive play and more information about the minimum requirements.
The following are the absolute most essential things to wear for Badminton:
Socks should be of good quality, but many players overlook them in favor of other equipment. They can make a huge difference between a pleasant, enjoyable playing experience and a blister-prone agony that destroys your feet before you know it.
There are many locations to acquire high-quality sports socks. Badminton brands create socks for Badminton too, just like us! Choose a reputable brand and make sure the socks are thick and have a high thread count. Your feet will not be rubbing against your shoes as much as they would if you used low-quality, thin socks.
After that, you'll probably have a range of sports clothing, such as shorts, skirts, and T-shirts, which will suffice for Badminton. Just make sure they're breathable and don't use cotton since it absorbs perspiration. Wearing a stinky cotton T-shirt while playing Badminton is not relaxing. If you're having trouble deciding, make sure you check out our gear!
Wear clothes that allow you to move freely. Badminton is a game that involves a lot of twisting, turning, stretching, and lunging, so wear clothing that can expand or are loose so you have the room to move about.
We would advise purchasing Badminton shoes even if you are just getting started playing. If you don't own any, I'd recommend playing Basketball, Squash, or other regular indoor sports instead. It's preferable to have a pair of Badminton shoes that are only used for badminton so they don't get ruined when you go outside with them.
Playing badminton without adequate support can result in serious injuries, including sprains, strains, and fractures. Most trainers and running shoes lack the cushioning to protect the feet, knees, and legs from lunging and leaping during Badminton. They won't have enough grip to prevent you from sliding around, nor will they provide enough ankle support to avoid ankle twists and rolls.
The previous section covered the basic necessities, and this section examines things that aren't necessary to have but are nice to have, especially if you start playing more frequently.
Sweat bands and headbands are not as popular as they once were, but sweatbands and wristbands can be quite useful while playing Badminton. Playing Badminton will get your heart pumping soon enough, making you sweaty. However, sweating might be an issue.
It's critical to get warmed up properly before playing Badminton. A poor warmup could lead to injuries and prevent you from performing at your best. Warmup jackets/hoodies and pants are made by Badminton and sports companies (like us!) in order to spread heat evenly across your entire body.
For men or women with long hair, you'll need a hairband. I can't fathom it being pleasant or useful to have long loose hair constantly in your face while playing sports. These are under the optional category more as a reference to sport-branded headbands. When I see people play and just tie their hair back using ordinary bobbles, the sporting-specific ones appear to be more of a luxury than they do when I see people playing and only utilizing normal bobs for tying their hair back.
Aside from being machine washable and more durable than standard hairbands and bobs, I don't perceive any advantages. Just make sure you have something to keep your hair back.
If you play socially with friends, family, or anybody else and just for fun at your local leisure center, you may wear whatever you like. I'd still suggest keeping to the clothing we've discussed in this article. If, on the other hand, you participate in a Badminton club in a local league or compete in tournaments, you will be required to adhere to a distinct dress code.
The dress code is more likely to demand that you wear shorts rather than long pants, with a T-shirt on top, regardless of the type of sport you play. The removal of these items is intended to avoid detracting from Badminton as a sport and playing with a football shirt is effectively promoting another one.
There are also certain restrictions on printed apparel. Any shirts with graphics, pictures, or text are most likely prohibited. The restriction is against the promotion as well as any indecent material such as nudity and explicit language being banned.
Shirts and shorts may be colored in practically any color or design, with very few restrictions. The vast majority of sports clothing will adhere to any rules that exist.
There will be more restrictions around clothing in terms of sponsorship, printed names on shirts, and potentially matching your partners' clothing color if you're playing doubles or mixed as you progress up the event ladder. Not something to worry about when you're just starting out, but it's something to bear in mind.
Controversially, the BWF considered making it compulsory for women to wear dresses while playing Badminton. Thankfully, they changed their minds and dropped the idea. Women are now subject to the same dress code regulations as men. They may wear shirts, shorts, and skirts if they follow the same restrictions as males.
I don't think it's necessary to have a dress code when wearing a Badminton skirt, but if you were to wear one, having a pair of pants on underneath would be beneficial. For modesty's sake, I'd propose that if you're going to wear a Badminton skirt, you should have a pair of shorts beneath it.
Skorts are skirts with shorts attached underneath that are popular among sports companies. These are wonderful because you don't have to buy separate clothes for layering.
