Here's a quick one! So what do you think of the question above? Do you know the difference? If not, let me give you some insight.

Let's start with the definitions. While I could google this for you, I'm going to give you my interpretation instead.

Trickshot: A trickshot is a shot played very unconventionally or differently to how a shot is normally played and it requires quite a bit of skill to perform successfully. It is visually very different from how you would normally hit the shuttle. Examples of these shots are: around the back, through the legs and the famous Peter Gade shot below! (Start at 4:56 or watch them all!)

While a trickshot can be deceptive, it's not always the case. For example, hitting it through the legs (see below video starting at 0:39) is a trickshot, but it is easily read and does not deceive the opponent.

Now let's talk deception.

Deception: In badminton, it would make sense that deception is a shot that deceives the opponent. It's really that simple.

So when you have mastered the basics or have become very good at the basics, deception/trickshots are an extension of the skills you have. The subtle deception in badminton that you don't see much of in other sports is one of the reasons why I love badminton so much. The challenge with watching and understanding deception when seeing games on the screen is that these intricacies are often missed as it's happening so quickly!

The key here is to remember to get the basics right before working hard on trickshots and deception :)

So what clothing should you wear to play badminton? Wear short or skirt with a light synthetic sports T-shirt for Badminton. Avoid tracksuit pants and long-sleeved T-shirts since you'll want to be able to move freely. Avoid 100% cotton materials for any of these. If you're going to play a lot, invest in a pair of Badminton shoes.

Badminton Vs. The Gym - What's a better workout?

January 02, 2025 5 min read

Choosing between badminton and gym workouts depends on your fitness goals. Badminton offers a high-intensity cardiovascular workout, boosting agility, speed, and endurance while engaging multiple muscle groups. In contrast, gym workouts focus on targeted strength training and flexibility, allowing for customized exercises to build muscle and improve overall fitness. Both have unique benefits: badminton excels in full-body conditioning and coordination, while the gym provides structured strength and endurance training. Consider your personal fitness objectives to decide which workout suits you best.
