You Need To Grip Your Badminton Racket...

But you have no idea how! Don't worry - we've got you covered! Check out this video:

Need written instructions? Here they are!

How To Grip (or Re-Grip) Your Badminton Racket
You might be wondering, why would I need to re-grip my racket? It’s already got one. Well, there’s a couple of reasons for that.

Just like the tyres on your car get worn down over time, so do the grips on your racket.

Our rackets all come with grips but most seasoned players will use an overgrip. This is a grip that you place over the top of another grip. The reason why badminton players do this are:
  • The original grip has worn out
  • They have a preference for certain type of grip
So if you’ve got a grip and you’re reading to get gripping, there’s three things you need to grip a racket:
  1. Your racket
  2. A new grip
  3. Scissors (usually!)
Now, let’s look at steps for how to grip your racket:
  1. Open the grip
  2. Peel the plastic tab at the end of the grip to reveal the adhesive layer
  3. Peel the plastic film off of the grip
  4. Stick the end of the grip onto the end of the racket handle
  5. Pull the grip firmly while turning the racket to complete the first throw. Make sure that bottom of the grip aligns with the bottom of the handle. The first turn is usually the hardest and can make or break the aesthetics of the grip so make sure you take a lot of care with this step, or you’ll end up with an ugly grip!
  6. Work your way up the handle, trying to maintain an even amount of overlap between each layer. So if you want a thicker grip, you will need to overlap the grip more in each layer, and vice versa if you want a thinner grip
  7. When you have reached the top of the handle, this is where scissors are important you’re going to need to trim the grip back - unless of course, you want the grip halfway up the shaft OR you’ve gripped your racket with so little distance between the layers…
  8. Cut the grip in a diagonal direction so that it will be flush when you put the grip tape on.
  9. Wrap the grip tape on to secure the grip
  10. And you're done!

So there you have it, how to grip or re-grip your badminton racket.

Just like stringing or stencilling a racket. If it’s in the too hard basket, there will almost always be someone around you in the badminton stadium that can give you a hand!

So get gripping and never worry about your racquet slipping out of your hand again!
